Parents of children who will start pre-kindergarten or kindergarten next August are reminded of the kindergarten health clinic May 6. Medical care providers will conduct screenings from 1:30 to 5:30 pm at Greene County elementary, 401 E. Russell St, Jefferson.
The following screenings and services will be offered:
- Vision screening by a local optometrist
- Lions Club KidSight vision screening
- Dental screening
- Hearing screening
- Lead risk screening
- Hemoglobin test
- Immunizations, if needed
- Blood pressure reading
- Height and weight measurements
“This is a great way to get most of your student’s requirements for kindergarten completed at one time,” a school spokesperson said.
Parents are asked to call the school at 515-386-3178 to schedule an appointment. The clinic takes approximately one hour to complete. The examinations are screenings only. If potential problems are identified, families will be encouraged to make an appointment with their regular health care provider.
Donations will be accepted to help cover the cost of the supplies used for the clinic. All providers are donating the time of their staff and various supplies to the kindergarten health clinic. Jefferson Rotary Club members will also volunteer at the clinic.
Parents who would like more information can contact school nurses Mary Pedersen, RN, or Ann Hicks, RN, or a school secretary at the above number.
